The Audio-Video Technology and Film Pathways provide students the opportunities to experience some of the roles held by professionals in the film and broadcast industries in addition to helping students understand the overall aspects of the film industry.
The first course teaches students the basics of the film industry, demonstrating the importance of safety on a set as well as out in the field. Students begin by learning film trade terminology, abbreviations, and acronyms while learning how to properly use basic production equipment. Students explore various types of scripts and how to compose a storyboard. In this first course, the focus is on the pre-production phase, including planning and required level of detail. Various career paths in the film industry are examined as part of this course.
The second course emphasizes the importance of safety. Students write scripts and develop their own project ideas, using Adobe Premiere Pro and special effects designed to create more interesting productions. In addition, students use advanced editing skills, imagination, and creativity to produce successful videos and other presentations.
In order to complete the Audio-Video Technology and Film I Pathway, the third course requires application of the knowledge and skills learned in the earlier courses. Students enrolled in this course become the director of their own creativity, by writing and developing concepts into productions using talent, crew members, and editors. All productions are examined and edited as needed based on peer feedback. During this course, students use editing tools to refine their work to ensure high-quality products.

Some students complete the Audio-Video Technology and Film II Pathway by completing Broadcast Video Production Application as the third course. This particular course focuses on creating productions with a non-linear editor and uses a workstation for broadcasting live as many newscasts and sportscasts do today.
Students who complete one of these pathways and successfully pass the NOCTI Television Production End of Pathway Assessment (EOPA) earn an industry-recognized credential of value. The film industry has a very large presence in the North Georgia area and provides many opportunities for students wanting to pursue a career in film production.
