Jefferson City Schools Federal Programs
TITLE I - PART A
What is Title I?
Title 1 is part of the Every Student Succeeds Act. Title 1 is a federally funded program which provides services to schools based on student economic need. Title 1 is designed to support state and local school reform efforts tied to challenging state academic standards in order to reinforce and enhance efforts to improve teaching and learning for students.
Title 1 programs must be based on effective means of improving student achievement and include parental and family engagement strategies.
Title 1 programs are either schoolwide or targeted assistance. Schools must have a 40% free and/or reduced lunch count to qualify as a Title 1 school. Currently two schools receive Title 1, Part A funds to support their Targeted Assistance programs. Funds at each school are used to hire additional personnel and to purchase supplemental instructional materials to help impact student achievement.
What is the Purpose of Title I?
To provide extra educational assistance beyond the regular classroom to at-risk students.
How do schools qualify for Title I funds?
Schools qualify for Title I funds based on economic need. Jefferson Elementary and Jefferson Academy are eligible to receive Title I funds for 2023-2024. Both schools follow the Title I Targeted Assistance program design based on the percentage of free and reduced lunch rate falling below 40%.
