Within the Jefferson City School System Board of Education, each member brings his or her own unique set of strengths.  There is always great collaboration among board members, leading to a positive work environment.  Every voice is heard.  Mrs. Guy Dean Benson, always a kind and calming force, stands strong and steady in her commitment to the mission of the Jefferson City School System.  Mrs. Benson, a 1964 graduate of Jefferson High School, joined the Board of Education in 1992 and currently serves as treasurer.  She is thankful to have attended this public school system and is motivated to ensure that it continues the standard of educational excellence set in 1818.

Mrs. Benson believes the biggest changes that have occurred during her tenure as a board member include the addition of dual enrollment course offerings, the use of technology, the need for increased building security, state budget austerity cuts, and Educational Local Option Sales Tax (ELOST).  The biggest challenge facing the future, she believes, is budgeting for population growth.

Mrs. Benson states that her hobbies and interests are centered around God, family, and country.  She is grateful for every day and the chance to make a difference.  Mrs. Benson is proud of her family of Jefferson graduates, including her husband, J.B., and sons, Matt and Drew.  She has two daughters-in-law and seven grandchildren.

Thank you, Mrs. Benson, for your service as a board member and ongoing commitment to ensuring high standards of teaching and learning in Jefferson City Schools.
