The Jefferson City School System is proud to announce that Jefferson Elementary School has been recognized as a 2022 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. All schools, both public and private, are eligible for this prestigious award based on outstanding school performance and may only be nominated once every five years. Earlier today, Miguel Cardona, U.S. Secretary of Education, announced 297 schools as recipients of the National Blue Ribbon Schools award.

“I applaud all the honorees for the 2022 National Blue Ribbon Schools Award for creating vibrant, welcoming, and affirming school communities where students can learn, grow, reach their potential, and achieve their dreams,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona. “As our country continues to recover from the pandemic, we know that our future will only be as strong as the education we provide to all of our children. Blue Ribbon Schools have gone above and beyond to keep students healthy and safe while meeting their academic, social, emotional, and mental health needs. These schools show what is possible to make an enduring, positive difference in students’ lives.”

Jefferson Elementary School was one of only five elementary schools in Georgia to receive National Blue Ribbon status. The U.S. Education Department recognizes schools in one of two categories:  Exemplary High-Performing or Exemplary Achievement Gap-Closing. Jefferson Elementary School was among the Exemplary High Performing awardees.

“It is an honor for our school to be recognized for the excellence that we all seek and pursue,” said former JES Principal Annette Beckwith. “We are so grateful to our staff, students, and many stakeholders for their support that makes this level of performance possible. ”

The National Blue Ribbon Schools award demonstrates the commitment of students, educators, families, and communities to exceptional education. This distinguished recognition is a testament to the standards of excellence present in Jefferson City Schools.

Congratulations to Jefferson Elementary School on this fine accomplishment!
