COVID-19 Update and Operations

Posted On: Monday, April 27, 2020

For immediate release: March 14, 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The Jefferson City School District has revised our plan of action regarding COVID-19 following a news conference led by Governor Brian Kemp on March 14, 2020.

Jefferson City Schools will remain open on Monday, March 16th; however, parents and guardians may keep students home without penalty if they choose. All staff will be required to report for a workday on Tuesday, March 17th.

Distance and digital learning will take place for students on Wednesday, March 18th, through Friday, March 27th. Classes tentatively will resume Monday, April 6, 2020 after Spring Break.

The district has made the decision to remain open on Monday to allow students to receive devices and additional instructions to ensure a smooth transition into distance and digital learning.

All students in grades K-5 will be issued a device. Students in grades 6-12 have the option of using a personal device; however, usage of a school device is recommended by our technology department for technical support. This document details our expectations for use of a school device.

For those students who are not present on Monday, we will provide a device check out at the Jefferson High School cafeteria from 7:30 am to 6:30 pm on Tuesday, March 17th. This check out will be available for students of all schools in the district.

All district extracurricular activities, field trips, assemblies, and sporting events will be cancelled until further notice.

During this time of uncertainty, we appreciate our community for their support. Please take the necessary precautions to keep yourself, your families, and the community safe, including practicing social distancing and additional CDC guidelines.

The health and safety of our students, faculty, staff, and community remains the top priority of Jefferson City Schools. We will provide updates and additional information related to COVID-19 as it becomes available. Please check your email daily and refer to our COVID-19 reference page for updated information.
