The Jefferson City Schools Board of Education was recently named a Georgia School Board Association (GSBA) Governance Team of the Year for 2021. This prestigious award recognizes three Georgia public school districts’ board of education and superintendent teams who achieved all-around excellence in their district. The award is given based on three categories of school district size which are: small, 1-3,000 students, medium, 3,001-10,000 students, and large, 10,000 plus students.
Jefferson City Schools won for the medium category based on student enrollment of 4,000 plus students. Finalists for this award were vetted through a competitive application process and a visit from a review team to confirm the excellence presented in the application. Ratings of the applications were scored by a national team with expertise in school board governance.
Our Board of Education along with Superintendent Dr. Donna McMullan were recognized at a ceremony featuring all finalists on December 1, 2021. Dr. McMullan, on her reflection of the award, stated, “Our Board of Education is truly honored to be named GSBA Governance Team of the Year. Collectively, the members of the Jefferson City Board of Education have over 125 years of service. JCS is fortunate to have exemplary board members who set high standards of excellence and always prioritize the needs of our students and staff to ensure success for all. We are grateful for our students, staff, parents, and the entire community of Jefferson for their hard work and dedication to continuing the legacy in educational excellence!”
