Jefferson Academy donated Clorox wipes to Amazon following the COVID-19 pandemic. Amazon has generously returned the donation to JA with triple the amount of wipes.

Attached are the JCS Response Protocols for COVID-19, which outline the procedures for communicating how suspected and positive COVID-19 cases will be handled in the school setting. Additionally, the document outlines specific procedures for returning to school or work after a quarantine.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we have worked to refine our plans for reopening Jefferson City Schools. Our system and school leaders continue to work with local and state officials to monitor circumstances surrounding COVID-19 in order to make the most informed decisions. Our plan to reopen schools for face-to-face instruction on Friday, July 31, 2020 is based on the most current information; however, we acknowledge that the situation is subject to change.

Georgia Public Broadcasting and Georgia Department of Education just launched “Getting Ready” guides for grades K-3 as part of their Georgia Home Classroom initiative. The skills were identified by GaDOE Curriculum & Instruction staff.

Jefferson Academy receives COVID-19 Relief Fund Grant for summer reading Book Deliveries

Jefferson Academy received a COVID-19 Relief Fund Grant through the Innovation Fund Foundation and the Georgia Foundation for Public Education to help purchase reading materials for at-risk students in grades 2 – 5.

2020 Census

New meningococcal booster shot requirement

The Georgia Department of Public Health will require all students entering or transferring into 11th grade for the 2020-2021 school year to provide proof of a meningococcal booster shot (MCV4), unless their first dose was received on or after their 16th birthday.

JCS disinfects campuses

The Jefferson City School System has taken precautionary measures while students are not on campus to disinfect and sanitize our schools, sports complexes and school buses with an EPA approved solution proven effective against COVID-19.

Executive Order by Gov. Brian Kemp impacts school closures

The Jefferson City School System will remain under campus closures following an Executive Order from Governor Brian Kemp mandating the suspension of face-to-face instruction through April 24, 2020.

COVID-19 drive-through testing begins in Athens-Clarke County

The Northeast Health District has opened a drive-through site that is testing for COVID-19 by referral. The testing site is performing specimen collection only, and results will take three to four days. No results will be given on-site.
