AIRPORT ADVENTURE!
A South American Exploration
Who will have the most interesting journey?
Who will be the greatest detective?
Who won't make it past customs?

Where: A South American country - Argentina, Bolivia, Uruguay, Venezuela, Brazil, Ecuador, Chile, and Peru
When: February 14th - a Valentine Flight!
Who: Your secret identity must not be known...shhhh!

You will be assigned a unique identity for a trip to a South American country.  Do not tell your identity to anyone!  Your mission will be to research your identity and place of travel.  With your research you will create: (1) a five-entry travel journal, and (2) a 2-minute oral presentation of your trip.  You may state your identity in your private journal, but your oral presentation must present the details of your trip without giving away any information about who you are!

#1  Task Definition (Monday, January 29th):  What questions do we need to ask for our trip?  We will provide answers for the first two questions!  You will write eight more questions on your own (for a total of 10 questions).

  • Who are you?

  • Where are you going?

  • YOUR 8 QUESTIONS!  Remember to bring these with you EVERY day during research!

NOTE: Your teachers and Ms. Pals will check your questions on Tuesday, January 30th!

#2  Information Strategies (Monday, January 29th):  BRAINSTORM: Where will you find the answer to your questions?  What resources will help you?

  • Encyclopedia

  • People and Places Encyclopedia

  • Atlas

  • Almanac

  • Subject books (table of contents/index)

  • Websites and Databases (GALILEO)

  • Primary sources (diaries/journals)

  • Interviews

#3  Locating (Jan. 31st - Feb. 2):

Here are the recommended websites for your project:

#4 Collecting Information (Jan. 31st - Feb. 2):  Use this graphic organizer as an example to help you neatly organize the information you find.  Make sure to find facts and important information for each question!

#5 Present your information (Friday, February 9th):  Written journal and oral presentation are due.

  • Travel journal: your travel journal will be 5-entries for 5 days of travel (Feb. 14-18).  Remember--although you are required to use your imagination, you also MUST use the facts you research in your journey.  If you make sure to include the answers to your questions, you will be fine!

  • Oral presentation: Your oral presentation will be a 2-minute description of your trip.  Although you will give awesome descriptions of your country and location, you will NOT tell who you are or what you are doing!  You must include enough information so others can guess.

#6 Evaluate: Please use the checklist below to make sure you have done your best on this project!
