8th Grade Photos

Hello and welcome to the 8th grade. We are all so excited about this school year and look forward to a fantastic year of learning and fun. We believe that all students have a right to learn and are capable of learning. Our ultimate goal is to prepare students for the rigor of high school. To do so, we strive to maintain an environment that places the student in charge of his or her own learning. We strongly believe that students should be responsible for their own learning.

Communication is key to a successful learning environment. If you ever need to discuss any situation with us, please feel free to call at 367-2882. We want to make this experience the best it can be in preparation for a new transition in life.

Science

We are so proud of the way our students represented Jefferson Middle School on our Six Flags field trip!  Our 8th graders were by far some of the best-all-around students in the park!

The concepts involved with roller coasters support many of this year's Science objectives......energy transformations, forces and motion, inertia and gravity, etc.  We were very excited to hear our students applying and making connections with these concepts as we moved throughout the park last Friday!  In an effort to continue to academically support our Six Flags field trip, students are working on a roller coaster project during Science class this week.  The project can be found on the school website.  Go to 'library', then 'teacher projects'.  The rubric that will be used for grading can be found there also.  Students have voted to let this take the place of our final exam this nine weeks.  Therefore, we are expecting some great presentations!  Students will be given class time, Monday - Thursday, to work on this project.  Presentations will begin Friday.  We must be finished by Wednesday with the presentations.

Some class time, throughout the week, will be spent finishing our novel, Flight #116 is Down.

Social Studies

Monday and Tuesday this week students will have time to work with their groups to finish preparations for the debates.  Debates will begin on Wednesday and probably take two days.  Friday we will begin preparations for the final exam.

*Individual teachers may send out an additional email with information more specific to your child’s class.
