Weekly News from Jefferson Middle School’s 6 Red Team
Week of January 30, 2012

Schedule Changes:

In order to alleviate wasted academic time, sixth grade will change the break schedule. Beginning this week, break time will be after lunch. Students will leave the cafeteria at 11:20 and go outside (weather permitting) or go to the sixth grade hall to enjoy a ten minute break. Students will resume third period at 11:35.

If a student is given detention, he/she will serve it during lunch. There is a designated silent lunch table in the cafeteria where students who have been assigned detention will sit and eat. Because we teachers really want to see all students benefit from a short reprieve from academics, we are thrilled to state that no one will be excluded from break with the exception of lunch or hallway misbehavior. Lunch detention (formerly break detention) will be logged on Infinite Campus and the same regulations for Student Success Day will apply.

Special Note: We tried out our plan today and many students commented they liked this plan better. They loved knowing they were guaranteed a 10 minute break.

Just a reminder: Infractions that will lead to lunch detention are the same as the infractions for break detention that was listed on the contract JMS sent at the beginning of the year: no homework, inappropriate behavior, etc.

Items of General Interest:
Progress Reports will go home Thursday, February 2. Please review, sign, and have your student return to his/her homeroom teacher as soon as possible.
