Last Friday (Nov. 25th), the Jefferson High School Dragons faced off against the Cairo High School Syrupmakers in the quarterfinals of the state playoffs. The Dragons beat the Cairo Syrupmakers with a final score of 17-14. Jefferson did not lead the Syrupmakers until the final 17 seconds of the game. In the first quarter, Cairo took the lead with a rushing TD to lead 7-0. Jefferson and Cairo traded field goals to make 10-3 with Cairo leading at halftime. Jefferson tied the game in the third with a TD pass from Clark to Randolph. Jefferson scored the final points of the game with a rushing TD from Colby Wood with 17 seconds left. The win brings Jefferson to 12 wins and 1 loss for their season. Congratulations on the victory, Dragons! It was a great game by both teams. This win gives the Dragons a chance to avenge their one loss on the season in the semifinals against Thomson High School. The game will be held in Thomson at 7:30.
