2018-2019 Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten Round-Up (Registration) will be held May 3rd & 4th.

Registration packets are available HERE or in the JES lobby. Beginning April 9th through May 2nd you will be able to make an appointment online for Kindergarten Round Up. Kindergarten Round Up will be held May 3rd & 4th. Please turn in all paperwork to JES by May 2nd.

Upon arrival for your Kindergarten Round-Up appointment, your child will be screened by one of our kindergarten teachers. During the screening, your child will take a placement test in reading and math. This gives us information about the type of classroom that would best serve your child’s instructional needs. We seek to provide a mixed ability grouping in our classrooms and this testing helps us create this environment. This appointment should last approximately 30 minutes.

Please bring the following documents at the time of your child’s scheduled appointment:

  • Birth Certificate (student must turn 5 by September 1st of the current school year)
  • Social Security Card or Waiver
  • GA State Immunization Form 3231

Pre-K students who are currently enrolled at Jefferson Elementary School:

Pre-K students who are currently enrolled and whose address is inside the city limits of Jefferson do not need an appointment for Kindergarten Round-Up. Pre-K students will be screened by your child’s current Pre-K teacher. You will register at Open House during the week before school starts. Please check our website in the summer for the date and for more details about Registration/Open House.

Pre-K students who are currently enrolled and whose address is out of the city limits of Jefferson do not need an appointment for Kindergarten Round-Up. Pre-K out of district students will be screened by your child’s Pre-K teacher; however, acceptance of your child is not guaranteed. We will mail a letter and an out of district application to complete and return to JES. You will receive notification by mail as late as the summer if your child was or was not accepted. Tuition is required before the first day of school. Please see the Out of District information below for more details.

What do I do if I cannot come to Kindergarten Round-up?

In and out of district students should call Jefferson Elementary to schedule an appointment during the summer. Please follow the same Kindergarten Round-up instructions on our website for required documents, etc.

After Kindergarten Round-up, have I finished registering my child for kindergarten?

The answer to this question is not quite yet. This will complete the initial registration requirements for kindergarten. We will have Open House before school starts where you will complete the additional documents and you will meet your child’s teacher. In an effort to save time, the latest version of these documents will be online just prior to Open House for you to download and bring with you to registration. If you are unable to access these forms online, we will provide the forms at Open House for you to complete while at registration. Open House dates have not been determined. Please check our website and the Jackson Herald during the summer for the date and time.

How do I provide proof of residence if I am not the homeowner or on the rental agreement?

Should living arrangements be a multi-residence household or a shared household and the parent/guardian is not the homeowner or head of household, a Student Residency Form must be completed by the current homeowner/head of household. These forms will be available at Kindergarten Round-up. This form and a current power/water bill should be submitted with the homeowner/head of household’s name on it.

How do I provide proof of residence if our family has just moved to Jefferson and we do not have a current utility bill?

We can accept a service connection receipt from the power/water company with your name and address on the receipt or you may pick up a proof of residence form from your utility company.

Out of District FAQ

Thank you for your interest in Jefferson City Schools. We believe our partnership with our out of district students and parents enriches our school environment. Below you will find the answers to questions often asked about our process. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to assist you.

What is the process once the application is submitted?

Kindergarten out of district students are screened during Kindergarten Round Up. Out of district kindergarten students who are unable to attend Kindergarten Round Up, along with out of district first and second grade students, will be screened during the summer. You will need to contact the school to make a summer appointment for your child to be screened. During screening, your child will take a placement test in reading and math. This gives us information about the type of classroom that would best serve your child’s instructional needs. We seek to provide a mixed ability grouping in our classrooms and this testing helps us create this environment. The process takes about thirty minutes. Once we have the application and screening results your application is considered complete. We will review our current enrollment and your child’s needs to determine if your child will be accepted. Upon acceptance, a letter will be sent to your home informing you of the next steps to complete the enrollment process.

What are the factors in determining acceptance?

The major factors used to determine acceptance are space and program needs of the student. There are mandated class size limits for children requiring programs such as Early Intervention, Special Education, English as a Second Language, etc. We also are sensitive to families with siblings currently in the system; however, this does not guarantee an offer of acceptance.

How do I pay Tuition?

Jefferson City Schools will be implementing a new online student registration process through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal, which will be available the week of July 9th. Tuition for out-of-district students must be paid through the parent portal via e-check or VISA/Mastercard. Please note, tuition for the 2018-2019 school year will be $1,000.00 for the first child and $900.00 for additional children. Payments will not be accepted until the week of July 9th. Please stay tuned for more information about the online student registration process. We look forward to seeing you at Open House.

When will we know if we are accepted or not?

Once all in-district students are placed, we then analyze our space to determine how many out-of-district students can be accepted. We make decisions throughout the summer and sometimes as late as the first few weeks of school.

Should we enroll at our home school as well?

While every decision concerning your child’s education rests in your hands, we encourage parents to enroll their student in their school of residence until notified of acceptance at JES. This ensures your child a smooth entry into school wherever it may be.
