Bryan Bird is starting his first year as the boys varsity assistant basketball coach at Jefferson High School. Coach Bird is a native of Carlton, Georgia, and a 2004 graduate of Madison County High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education from the University of Georgia, and his Master’s in Education from Walden University. For the past 9 seasons, Coach Bird has served as assistant boys basketball coach and head JV coach at Madison County High School. He is married to Sara (Jones) Bird of Hull, Georgia. They have two children, Abigail (4) and Michael (10 months).
Joel Miller is beginning his first year as the 9th Grade boys basketball coach at Jefferson High School. Coach Miller received his bachelor’s degree in History Education from Maryville College. He then completed his master’s degree from Troy University and subsequently completed his Education Specialist in Leadership and Administration from Lincoln Memorial University. Prior to coming to Jefferson, Coach Miller has coached at Elbert County High School (3 Years), Apalachee High School (10 Years), and Flowery Branch High School (2 Years).
Coach Miller grew up in Vonore, TN. He graduated from Greenback High School in 1998. He is married to JoLynn Miller from Williamstown, PA. They have 4 children Emma (7), Ella (4), twins Erin and Jackson (7 Months).
Kevin Morris is beginning his first year as the head boys basketball coach at Jefferson High School. Coach Morris received his bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education from The University of Georgia. He then completed his master’s degree from Walden University in Educational Technology and subsequently completed his Education Specialist in Leadership and Administration from Lincoln University. Prior to coming to Jefferson, Coach Morris served as assistant boys basketball coach and head JV basketball coach at Stephens County High School. During his time at Stephens County he also coached baseball as well as golf. In 2001, Coach Morris moved to Apalachee High School in Winder Georgia where he was the boys varsity assistant basketball coach and the boys and girls golf coach. In 2002, Coach Morris became the head boys basketball coach at Apalachee where his teams competed in two Final Fours and a Sweet Sixteen during his 15 year tenure.
Coach Morris grew up in Hartwell, Georgia. He graduated from Hart County High School in 1991. He is married to Amanda Bryant Morris from Royston. They have two sons Ethan (19) who attends and plays football at Reinhardt University and Eli (17) who is a junior and is on the track team at Jefferson.
Coach Jason Gibson has been a top the Lady Dragon Basketball program since 2006. He is a 1992 Graduate of Jefferson High School. During his High school Career Coach Gibson was a 3 time All-State selection amassing 2389 points. Coach Gibson was selected to the prestigious North vs South All Star Game as well as Team Georgia for the Georgia vs Tennessee Classic after averaging a then school record 33 ppg as a Senior for Coach Bolling DuBose. Coach Gibson still holds the Jefferson and then state record for three pointers in a game with (13). Gibson received a basketball Scholarship to the University of West Georgia where he spent his freshman season averaging over 10ppg and starting in all 26 games for the Braves. He transferred to the University of North Georgia where he finished a fantastic playing career as a 3 time Captain and 2 time All Conference player. Coach Gibson accumulated over 1150 points during his College playing career and still currently holds the University of North Georgia record for 3 pointers in a game (9). Coach Gibson graduated from the University of North Georgia with a B.S. in Physical Education in 1996. Upon graduation he was offered the Graduate Assistants position with the Men's Basketball program at UNG and received his M.Ed in 1997 from North Georgia. In 1998, Gibson was named the Top Assistant at UNG and served in that position for 7 years. In 2000, Gibson was named the Head Men's and Women's Cross Country Coach at the University of North Georgia. Gibson's teams finished no lower than 5th in the ultra-competitive NAIA Region XIII, while sending several runners on to National Competition. In 2004, Coach Gibson accepted the Head Men's Basketball position at Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Georgia. Along with coaching responsibilities, Coach Gibson also taught a full course load in the Kinesiology department. In 2005, Coach Gibson accepted a teaching position at Jefferson High School as the Head Girls and Boys Cross Country Coach as well as Boys Basketball Varsity Assistant serving in that capacity for 1 season. In 2007, Coach Gibson received his Eds in Educational Leadership from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, TN.
While at Jefferson the Lady Dragons under Coach Gibson have amased 198 wins and 106 loses. His teams have finished in the Top 4 in Region play 7 out of the 11 seasons to date all while seeing the playing field go from single A all the way up to AAAA. They have finished runner up in the Region twice and been crowned Region Champions twice. The schools 1st Region Championship since 1987 happened in 2013-14. Last years Region Championship marked the 2nd time in 4 years in which the Lady Dragons reigned supreme in thier assigned Region. The Lady Dragons have reached the Sweet 16 3 times and the Elite 8 twice. Coach Gibson has been named Region Coach of the year 3 times during his time at Jefferson and was selected to Coach in the prestgious North / South All Star game 2 seasons ago making him one of the few Coaches to have been involved in the event both as a Player and as a Coach.
Coach Gibson also coaches on the Football staff at the Jefferson Middle School. This will be his 3rd season as an Assistant Coach.
