Editor's Note

A Letter from the Editor

The intent of this magazine, described in the few words of our mission statement, is what first attracted me to the position of editor. It is my hope, however, that our role may exceed that of providing focus for creative minds, and even exceed superior aesthetic achievement. The beauty of any work of art is sufficient justification of its existence; a great work of art is as worthy a creation as any product of nature.

We feel impelled to go beyond this by using the Pen Dragon as a vehicle for addressing the issues which plagued ancient man and which still pertain to contemporary man and his society, stemming from his evolution and the consciousness he developed during that course.

Through the use of narrative, it is possible to direct attention and effort in the necessary manner to our analyses. Perhaps what is done in the Pen Dragon will contribute to the ascension of man to the enlightened form of existence he has, throughout history, consciously and unconsciously worked to, and, through his self-imposed hindrances, kept himself from.

This is possible only with the assistance of our readers, so we ask you be welcome to the first issue of the Jefferson Pen Dragon.
