This month's character education word is initiative - seeing what needs to be done and doing it.

In kindergarten, Ms. Kenney read the book “Not Now!” Said the Cow by Joanne Oppenheim.
A character in the book, crow, found corn seeds, planted them, pulled weeds from the growing corn plants, picked the corn, shucked the corn, built a fire for the pot, and cooked the corn until it POP, POP, POPPED into POPCORN!
None of the other animals in the story demonstrated initiative to help crow so he ate it all by himself!
Students decorated popcorn of their own for a poster and enjoyed a popcorn snack.
