Classroom Guidance

This month's character education word is orderliness - arranging things to make your day easier.

  • Students discussed orderliness is and how it is a necessary skill at school and at home.

  • Ms. Kenney read the book Max Cleans Up by Rosemary Wells to students after making predictions from the title and cover artwork and discussed narrative elements of the story during the reading.

  • Students first learned about orderliness at school. They looked around the room and found things that were in their place already and those things that needed to be put back into their proper places. Students discussed how arranging those items makes classroom work easy to accomplish. Students were free to move about the room and put things back where they belonged.

  • Ms. Kenney took pictures of the major classroom areas (computers, sink, tables, cubbies, trash cans, etc.) once they were in order and e-mailed the pictures to teachers to place on the walls above the areas showing students how the areas should look after they have finished working there.

  • The students completed the orderliness at home worksheet to demonstrate transference of skills from the previous exercise.

See the students' work below.
